Aktuelle ReiseinformationenThe Falkland Islands consist of about 200 islands, the most important of which are West Falkland and East Falkland, each with about 6,000 km² (140 km × about 50 km).
In total, the flora of the Falkland Islands records 278 species. They are a British Overseas Territory and lie at about 50 degrees south latitude off the east coast of South America. The islands are claimed by Argentina and are called Islas Malvinas in Spanish.

The two main islands are West Falkland and East Falkland. In addition, there are numerous other smaller islands. The most important are:

Climate: Strong and steady westerly winds exist in many parts of the islands. The southeast has a higher probability of rainfall, while the western islands have a low annual rainfall. Temperatures are cool, snow can fall almost always except in January and February, although little snow remains. Therefore, most visitors come between November and March.
