If you want to experience Sardinia’s most beautiful bays, beaches and cliffs, set sail by boat.

In the bays, sailboats anchor for a short swim stop – or for the night.

Sardinia – the Caribbean of Europe

Less than a 2-hour flight separates Salzburg from Sardinia – a world of its own in the Mediterranean. The second largest island in Italy captivates with beautiful turquoise waters and impressive rock formations as a jewel in the Mediterranean Sea. Sardinia has 240 “official” bathing beaches – and many more hidden, enchanting and varied bays, as well as immense cliffs like in the Gulf of Orosei. Renting a car or traveling by ferry is highly recommended for discovering the east coast.

In the southeast, the Costa Rei (Sardinia’s royal coast) runs for 8 kilometers on bright white sandy beaches – perfect for sun-seekers, families and water sports enthusiasts. A relaxed Caribbean beach feeling quickly sets in here.

The crystal clear water at Spiaggia del Lido di Orri glistens golden in the right sunlight. The long and wide beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the east coast. At Spiaggia di Cea, a beautiful bay with white sand, framed on the left by red rocks and on the right by gray rocks, it is advisable to have diving goggles and a snorkel.

The Gulf of Orosei captivates with dream bays like Cala Goloritzè, Cala Luna or Cala Mariolu: wild-romantic rocky beaches, which are partly only reached by hiking trails – perfect for snorkeling, climbing, swimming. Cala Goloritzè: wild, idyllic bay, with bright white sand, crystal clear water, framed by mighty rock formations. The landmark of the bay is the 100-meter-high rock needle Punta Caroddi, which iconically rises into the blue sky above the beach. A beautiful rock gate closes the beach, which can be hiked from the Su Golgo plateau along well-marked paths (old donkey trail). Insider tip: The light falling into the water of the bay is especially beautiful in the morning. Do not forget snorkel and goggles!

Spiaggia La Cinta in San Teodoro is an almost 5 km long white dune dream beach on the southeast coast of Sardinia, which slopes gently far into the sea, ideal for smaller children. Right next to the beach there is a lagoon where flamingos live.

The peninsula of Capo Coda Cavallo is reached by a road that winds through a green landscape of cacti, olive trees, pine forests, juniper bushes, cork oaks and myrtles. Mediterranean smells, colors and impressions are imprinted in the memory forever. Once at the sea, the panorama takes your breath away. Light sand, crystal clear water, the beach quite narrow but protected from the wind, a fantastic view and a great atmosphere

On the Costa Smeralda in the north of the east coast, countless yachts of the rich and beautiful cavort in the emerald green waters. Porto Cervo stands for luxury and glamour and is considered the VIP hotspot. Sardinian cuisine is well versed in cheese, bread, meat and pasta – and, of course, wines rich in tradition. Plan a round trip along one of the coasts or across the island to explore all the hotspots.
