CITYTRIP. The Hungarian capital with more than 1.7 million inhabitants is located about 240 km away from Vienna, directly on the banks of the Danube. The city can be reached optimally by train, from Salzburg the journey takes about five hours.

The city is divided into two districts, Buda (west of the Danube) and Pest (east of the Danube), which are connected by numerous bridges. The most famous bridge is the Chain Bridge, one of the most famous landmarks of Budapest.

Sights Budapest has to offer very many

Above the city, high on Castle Hill, towers, for example, the imposing Castle District with countless sights, such as the Fishermen’s Bastion, Matthias Church and Trinity Square.

In the Old Town, on the opposite bank of the Danube, are the Parliament building and St. Stephen’s Basilica, among others. But also on the outskirts of the city you can find monuments, such as the Heroes’ Square, which are definitely worth a visit.

The sprawling city can be optimally visited during the day with a hop-on hop-off bus. For those who would also like to enjoy the effect of the illuminated sights at night, a nocturnal Danube boat trip is also recommended.

History buffs also get their money’s worth

During World War 2, Hungary was occupied by Germany, during which time countless Jews were exploited, persecuted and murdered. Because of these terrible events, many memorials were erected in Budapest, most of them can be found around the Jewish synagogue in the former Jewish quarter. The most famous memorials are the “Shoes on the Danube Bank”, which commemorate the Jews who were murdered on the banks of the Danube.

In the former Jewish quarter of the city, the old walls have been converted into so-called ruin bars – in these historic surroundings, you can end your evenings in comfort with drinks and delicious food from all over the world.

Pole of calm in the city

Locals and tourists alike like to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city on Margaret Island. The incredible park with water fountains, rose gardens, avenues of trees and cafes makes it very easy to relax.

Budapest is an optimal destination for a 5-day stay with friends or family. Whether sightseeing, culinary or recreational vacation – in this city everyone gets his money’s worth.

“Budapest is distinguished, among other things, by the incredible hospitality of its residents, who are always ready to help and advise vacationers.”
