South Africa has 17 national parks with a total area of 3.2 million hectares, their richness in animal species is unique in the world. In addition, there are provincial nature reserves and private game parks.

The best known, oldest and largest reserve is Kruger National Park (Kruger Park) on the border with Mozambique. It is about the size of Hesse with an exceptionally diverse landscape and numerous rivers that support the park’s abundance of wildlife. Here live in the wild among others rhinos, buffalos, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, antelopes, vultures and many other birds, reptiles, fish and amphibians.

CITY HIGHLIGHTS:

CAPE TOWN: The oldest and also the most beautiful city in South Africa is Cape Town. The mighty Table Mountain protects the town, while the white-sand beaches to the south and west form a picturesque contrast. Cape Town, founded in 1652, is situated on a peninsula with the legendary Cape of Good Hope at its tip, which juts out into the Atlantic, tossed by the surf. Visitors to the city rave about its flair: the mix of historic Cape Dutch and modern buildings, the relaxed lifestyle of the residents, the Victoria & Albert Waterfront with its countless stores, restaurants, cinemas and theaters, the beautiful sandy beaches on the Atlantic Ocean and the charming surrounding countryside all inspire enthusiasm.

JOHANNESBURG: Johannesburg is the city of gold, it is the New York of Africa with a glittering skyline. Here, life runs fast like business on the stock exchange. Jo’burg, as the inhabitants call it for short, is a city of superlatives

Best time to visit: The most pleasant time to visit South Africa is during the spring (September-October) and autumn months (March-April). In principle, however, trips are possible all year round.
