The length of the Atlantic coast is 402 km. Behind a 100 km long strip of flat land on the coast, the land rises to the east to form a 1,200 to 2,000 m high mountain plateau.

Provinces and one territory:

Southern Province (Western Province); Districts: Bo, Bonthe, Moyamba, Pujehun
Northern Province; Districts: Bombali, Kambia, Koinadugu, Port Loko, Tonkolili
Eastern Province; Districts: Kailahun, Kenema, Kono
Western Area with the capital Freetown; districts: Western Area Rural, Western Area Urban

Each district is also subdivided into several chiefdoms.

Cities

Freetown – national capital, capital of the Western Area
Kenema – Capital of the Eastern Province
Makeni – Capital of the Northern Province
Bo – capital of the Southern Province

Other goals

River No 2 – probably the most beautiful beach in Africa: fine sand, turquoise blue sea, green hills; does not have to hide from the Caribbean. However, in the meantime, especially on weekends also very well attended, equipped with tourist infrastructure

Lakka Beach, Toke Beach, Kent Beach

National Museum in Freetown (right by the Cotton Tree)

Cotton Tree – huge, centuries-old “cotton tree” in the center of Freetown: supposedly planted by the first slaves to be shipped to America via Sierra Leone.

Banana Island: apart from a small village and some remnants of the British colonial masters (church, cannons, street lamps that no longer work), there is a small village on the sleepy island and also a guesthouse for tourists. Small bays and beaches invite you to swim and if you can tear yourself away, you may discover the old cemetery or a pile. You can easily get to the island by fishing boats from Kent.

Outamba-Kilimi National Park in the north. The impressive landscape is the habitat of elephants, chimpanzees and pygmy hippos.
